Investigation and Penalties Short of Dismissal

Where misconduct does not warrant dismissal proceedings, an investigation may be conducted. The officer must know the whole case and have adequate opportunity to defend it. Proven misconduct may attract reduction in rank, withholding/deferment of increment or another appropriate punishment.
